The Use of Sugar vs. Splenda in
Baked Goods

Everyone loves to eat, especially baked goods like muffins and cookies. When people buy baked goods, they know that the item is sweetened, but do they know if it is sweetened with real sugar or a sugar substitute? For my science experiment, I will determine the difference in baked goods using Splenda, a sugar substitute, vs. sugar. I love to bake and I always wondered what was so different about Splenda and this was the perfect opportunity. One other reason that I chose this topic is because my uncles grow sugar beets on their farm and they often say that the artificial sweeteners are not good products and don’t work as well as sugar. So throughout the experiment, I hope to prove that sugar and Splenda have different taste, texture and appearance and that sugar is better than Splenda in baked goods.
