ANALYSIS
Lauren and Natalie’s science fair examination was on a very intriguing topic. Because of the fact that our science fair experiment was so interesting, we researched endothermic reactions and exothermic reactions to understand the causes of the temperature difference. During our first experiment where we added calcium chloride to water, we noticed that the temperature changed from 74 degrees Fahrenheit and increased to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The chemical reaction caused by the calcium chloride and water created an exothermic reaction.
Our second experiment consisted of pouring ammonium nitrate into a test tube with water. The reaction caused by this action was an endothermic reaction. The temperature dropped from 74 degrees Fahrenheit to 48 degrees Fahrenheit. That is a difference of 26 degrees! To make sure this experiment was accurate, we had to do it again because we could not believe that the temperature could drop that low.
