Introduction

The “Coke and Mentos Eruption” is a reaction caused by the combination of Mentos candy and Coke.  The result is a jet of cola from the mouth of the bottle that can reach as high as 18 feet!  Our purpose in choosing this science topic is to determine if the eruption of cola will be higher in Diet Coke or Coke.  Our research and experiment will prove which cola will produce a higher jet of cola.   We predict that the eruption of cola will be higher using Diet Coke.  We think this because Diet Coke contains Citric Acid and Coke does not.  We are guessing that the acid will cause the eruption to be more violent.  We think this is very interesting because we like to see things explode and we want to know how to make bigger explosions.
