Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to scientifically find out the effects of different acids on pennies. The two liquids I will use in this experiment, vinegar and lemon juice, have a high acidity content.
I chose this experiment because I was interested in what normal household, liquid, kitchen items can have on pennies. I also wanted to see if acid was why some older pennies became rusted, dirty, or turned green.
I decided on this experiment so I could find out for my self how an acid can affect a copper penny. By doing this experiment I hope to achieve a better understanding of acids and how they can affect things over time.
My final reason for conducting this particular experiment is as follows. I wanted to prove that water cannot affect copper. Some people believe that copper immersed in water for long periods of time will be damaged.
