Experiment
For our experiment we tested ten subjects of
different ages. To take their heart rate, we found the pulse in their neck and
then counted their pulse over fifteen seconds. We then multiplied that number by
four to find their beats per minute. The subject then sat comfortably in a
chair. Repeating the previous steps we took their heart rate again after three
minutes. The average of those two numbers was calculated and then recorded. This
was the subject’s resting heart rate.
The subject was then played slow music for seven minutes. Using the same method
for finding heart rate as we did when finding the subjects resting heart rate we
found the subject’s first slow music heart rate after seven minutes. The subject
continued to listen to slow music, ballads, slow pop, and light rock, for seven
more minutes. We took their heart rate again, averaged the two numbers and
recorded the scores. All of these steps were repeated having the subject listen
to fast music, rap, classic rock, and fast alternative rock.
