Goldfish are quite fascinating. Years of special breeding developed by Asian fish masters have created a household pet both beautiful and durable for people of all ages. Their feeding habits are just as interesting as the breed itself.
Goldfish eat like no other. They feed from both the bottom and the top of the tank. They even suck on the rocks and get food debris that other fish left behind. Goldfish eat Tropical Flake Food and vegetables. Pretty cool huh? Occasionally they will eat citrus like orange or lemon. Some have even been known to eat the bodies of their fallen comrades.
Did you know goldfish were one of the first ornamental fish breeds? Domestic goldfish vary greatly from those found in outdoor ponds. Goldfish can be grouped into seventeen categories according to body length, color, fin formation, gill size, and many more. These fish can range from the plain Comet (which we used in our experiment) to the Bubble Eyed Fantail. The most striking difference between wild goldfish and pet goldfish is that wild goldfish tend to have a long slender body with fins meant for survival, not for vanity.
As you can see, there are a lot more to goldfish than meets the eye. This popular pet has been around so long because of its ability to survive and intrigue humans in all situations. It's sure not a dog, but a goldfish can easily be a man's best friend!
