Physical Education
The Physical Education Department at Blessed Pope John XXIII does something more than just encourage physical skills such as movement, coordination, and actions which demonstrate the fine motor skills, our department promotes integrity. Our one rule is integrity and our definition of integrity is simple; Doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. Our grading is based on attitude, and participation. Through integrity, our faith never goes un-noticed.
Our curriculum not only consists of the basics drills for games such as football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, and soccer, but, we introduce to the kids new and exciting games such as Tchouch Ball, Monarch Ball, Sharks and Minnows, and Pirate Ball.
We are also very proud to continue our 2nd annual Presidents Challenge for grades 4th thru 8th. The Presidents Challenge is an American program introduced by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 1956 that aims to encourage all Americans to be physically fit. It is individual based testing on 5 fitness challenges: Push-ups, Pull-ups, Sit-ups, Shuttle Run, and Mile Run. This is something we prepare the kids for prior to starting and something we all have so much fun participating in.
Demonstrating physical fitness while using integrity is something we hope to teach. Not only through examples as teachers but by the examples our students set and demonstrate for themselves. We encourage competition but sportsmanship in competition is what our goal is. Doing the right thing while playing a game, even when no one is watching, sometimes can go un-noticed….but that integrity is the greatest gift we can give ourselves, our team, and our faith.
