Explicit, Direct Instruction with Critical Thinking

 INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS!

Online Support Resources - Textbook-Based Practice
Many of our text series offer online components to support and enrich your child's learning. The resources are organized by grade level and subject area.  Each provides online activities that can be completed from any Internet connected computer.

Diocese of Phoenix Curriculum Guidelinesintegrate state and national standards and are the foundation for all lessons. There is no perfect curriculum, but when the critical parts of an evidence based program are implemented with fidelity, focused on hight priority standards or curriculum guidelines, and delivered with best practices or strategies and a positive approach to learning, amazing progress happens!

Curriculum Resources K-8
We aim to provide a positive, challenging, academic environment using explicit, direct instruction while taking lessons to higher level applications to stimulate critical thinking. Lessons balance whole group, small group, and individualized instruction in efforts to meet the needs of all learners.  Our Catholic Faith is integrated throughout every curricular area.

Web-Based Literacy Programs: Ticket To Read, Write to Learn, and Accelerated Reader
Blessed Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic School subscribes to high quality research-driven instructional and assessment tools designed to improve students' phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills.

Explorers Program
We aim to help every child reach their God given potential, and that looks different for all learners. We meet the needs of all learners through research-based assessments, progress monitoring and curriculum measures at every grade level. Our goal is to help all children feel successful and make progress.  Every child is valued at Blessed Pope John XXIIII Roman Catholic School Community. Explorers provides the opportunity for children to experience individualized guided learning by working closely with faculty and peers in smaller class sizes, or groupings during reading, writing and math. Teachers follow the same objective based lesson plans in each small class, so students are consistently challenged with the same curricular material.

Journeys Enrichment
Pope John XXIII has added a variety of creative elective courses to enrich our school curriculum. The courses are interest-based and will foster higher-level applications in critical thinking, global learning, and foster ingenuity. The new Journeys Enrichment Classes will take place each week on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 - 2:50.  The Journeys Enrichment classes are optional. Students who do not participate in the Journeys Enrichment Classes will have early release on Wednesdays at 1:30. There are options for study hall and homework help along with creative coursework during this time.
