Our New E-Mails will be @PopeJohnXXIII.org

Due to past difficulties with our email system here at the school, we now have a new email system in place.  Bl. Pope John XXIII has established an Academic Alliance with Google.  Our email, online calendars, documents, sites, and videos will all be hosted by Google at our new Pope John Online page.  With this change, however, comes a break from the "@diocesephoenix.org" extension in our emails.  We are now using the appropriate "@popejohnxxiii.org" extension.  Please make the change in your contact lists.

This alliance will allow us to filter, block, and manage emails like never before.  Best of all, it allows us to give safe and secure email addresses to students.  Our current filtering systems will allow students to send emails to each other, teachers and staff, but not send or receive email from outside our school.  Collaborative work will be easier than ever with shared Docs and Calendars, both from Teacher to Student and Student to Student.

Please be sure to check back soon for updated information.

Shoe Policy for Athletic Shoes
Monday, 28 December 2009 00:00

White Shoes are Required for All Students

As of January 4, 2010, all shoes must be white so that the uniform policy can be enforced with less subjectivity or confusion.  100% all white shoes are preferred, however if your child has a predominately white shoe with school color insignia which are blue, black, gray or silver, these will be acceptable so long as the insignia is not larger than the size of a quarter, or is featured as acceptable on our shoe pictures.  Large bands of color are not allowable.

Students will be given one week grace period to get into shoe compliance without incident reports. After January 11th, incident reports will be given for uniform violations.

Reminders also include proper haircuts, belts, hair accessories, and skirt lengths.  Please ensure your child's uniform is compliant with the policy as stated in the handbook.

View examples of compliant and non-complaint shoe styles.

Shoe Examples

P.E. Exception
Students may choose to wear high quality supportive shoes during physical education and afterschool sports. Shoes for PE must be school colors but do not have to comply with criteria listed above. This will allow expensive sport shoes to last longer, and allow you to utilize your already purchased shoe. You child will need to change back into school required shoe after P.E..

X3e_01881092-1Pope John XXIII student Elizabeth C. and her family visited the Vatican in Rome this summer and had the opportunity to meet His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI!

Elizabeth and her family were at the Vatican to attend a meeting of ROACO — the Reunion of Aid Agencies for the Oriental Churches. It’s a group of Catholic charitable agencies that meets at the Vatican twice yearly to coordinate international Catholic aid to the churches and peoples of the East.

See more of their wonderful pictures in our Media Gallery.

Great 8th Grade ITBS Scores!

IMG_0598The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is a premier standardized test. The ITBS is by far one of the most challenging tests in the nation. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix and Pope John XXIII Catholic School recognize the value of student diagnostic data and assessment. The ITBS is only one piece of our ongoing assessment system here at Pope John XXIII Catholic School. When students graduate from POPE JOHN XXIII Catholic School, they are prepared for the rigor and challenge of a Catholic college preparatory education. Students are prepared to devote time to studies and are held accountable for learning.

Our eighth grade scores are among the highest in the nation based on the ITBS, and within the Diocese of Phoenix. Moreover, Catholic High Schools have been exceptionally pleased with our graduates.  A significant number of our graduates were accepted with distinction, or placed in accelerated coursework at the high school level this year.

2008 Eighth Grade Iowa Test of Basic Skills National Percentile Norms:

Reading                 81                       Social Studies               81

Language Arts        90                       Science                       85

Math                    88

(50th percentile represents average scores across the country. Anything higher than the 50th percentile is above average, and anything higher than the 70th percentile is outstanding.)

At Pope John XXIII Catholic School we continually evaluate our program effectiveness and aim for academic excellence in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Pope John XXIII Catholic School is fully accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association, North Central Association, and an active member of the National Catholic Education Association.
