SVdP Makeover
Our students were recently recognized for their generosity in an article in the "Vincentian Connection":
When Gabriela Bova, who heads Fresh Perspectives for SVdP, spoke to students at Pope John XXIII recently, the students were so touched by the plight of a local family that they immediately agreed to help. They only had one month to gather the necessary items. They sought donations from family and friends and raised funds to buy the other items from the family’s wish list. Some of the students even donated their allowances and savings to the project.
The family that needed help had originally lived in Iowa. During the spring floods, their house filled with water and they lost everything. The parents, with their ten children, decided to start over again in Phoenix and had been struggling to rebuild their life and home.
Thanks to the 19 students, parents, and the Fresh Perspectives program, the rebuilding of this family’s life received a huge boost. Their house was transformed by paint, furnishings and other touches that made the house a home. By the end of the day, there were tears, laughter, gratitude, hope, and memories that might just last a lifetime.
